The story behind it

When the evenings turn cold, the smell of roasting chestnuts drifts along city streets across Europe and beyond. Vendors set up small carts with a charcoal or wood fire under a perforated pan, scoring each nut with a quick cut so it does not burst, then turning them until the shells char and split open. In Portugal the season peaks around St. Martin's Day on 11 November, when families gather for the magusto with chestnuts and new wine, and Lisbon's carts send up clouds of white smoke. In Rome they are caldarroste, in Paris marrons chauds, sold hot in a paper cone that warms cold hands on the walk home.

This model gathers that scene on two big spoked wheels: a chunky red cart with a glowing coal drum, a pan heaped with chestnuts, paper cones waiting under one long striped awning, a smiling vendor, and a cat who has found the warmest spot.
